The pressure swing adsorption technique is used by Tech Verticals' PSA Oxygen Generator to remove oxygen (O2) from the compressed gas. Compressed air is circulated through a substrate of zeolite molecular sieve, which contains around 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen (ZMS). The sieve allows the O2 to flow through as a product gas under pressure because it selectively diffuses N2 and moisture over O2.

The cycle is then resumed as the other tower regenerates by depressurizing while the other tower is in the adsorption phase. At this point, the sieve discharges the gases that were adsorbed to the environment.
